Why we exist

Our Mission

WindBorne’s mission is to build a planetary nervous system by scaling our constellation of long-duration weather balloons to cover 100% of the Earth.

We provide people, governments, and industries with unprecedented environmental data and insights through a global atmospheric sensing constellation and AI-powered predictions. We are building the tools humanity needs to mitigate and manage the most destructive aspects of weather uncertainty.

01 — Prevention

Reducing emissions through better forecasts.

When planes fly with a tailwind or ships sail in lighter seas, they’re significantly more efficient. To do so, we need more accurate forecasts and better data, particularly over remote areas like oceans.

We aim to save 500 million metric tonnes of carbon per year through better weather-based routing alone. Better forecasts also accelerate renewable adoption by optimizing use of the electrical grid.

02 — Adaptation

Preparing humanity for intensifying weather.

The climate emergency is already here. In addition to reducing underlying emissions, we’re committed to helping humanity manage intensifying extreme weather.

  • Forecast the path and intensity of hurricanes, floods, and tornadoes.
  • Predict heat waves and cold snaps so communities can prepare.
  • Give crisis responders better information about fires and shifting winds.
